Every day I learn new things.

Every day I build relationships.

Every day I take steps toward success.

Why should I make sure my child is in school every day?

  • Children with good school attendance are more likely to succeed in school, graduate from high school, and find good jobs.
  • Missing more than one day a month-even if excused-can lead to falling behind.

What can I do to make sure my child is in school every day?

  • Talk to your child about why every day matters.
  • Keep an attendance calendar at home. Each week, reward your child for going to school every day.
  • Make a list of people who can help get your child to school when you can’t or when he/she misses the bus.
  • If your child says he/she feels sick but has no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, send your child to school and contact school staff.
  • Schedule your child’s appointments and all vacations for out-of-school hours.
  • If your child is refusing to go to school, get help from a teacher, counselor, principal, or other concerned adult.
  • Communicate regularly with your child’s teachers, and participate in school events.

If my child must miss school, what should I do?

  • Contact the school and provide any information they require.
  • Make sure you or your child talks to teachers about making up missed work.
  • Help your child get back to school as soon as possible.

Update your contact information at your school. If you need help with attendance issues, contact a school counselor or social worker.
